My journey with wine began as a 12 year old girl when my dad let me try a sip of his $8 per bottle red zinfandel wine, which I promptly spit out. In my few limited experiences after that, wine repeatedly disgusted me, and I continued to avoid it at every opportunity. Then I went to nursing school, and oh boy. To be honest, none of us would have graduated without copious amounts of wine - usually accompanied by even more tears. During a "study group," I was introduced to a wine I could actually tolerate. It was a sweet (and very cheap) moscato, and it became my go-to drink for nights involving any type of alcohol consumption. I branched out every once in a while, but usually just to try other moscato. The sweetness made it so much easier to drink, yet still made me feel like a sophisticated adult with a wine glass in my hand.
Fast forward to 2017, when I met Bodie, who solely drank Dos Equis (ew). I became determined to convert him into a wine drinker. We began buying different wines, developing a list of favorites, and we both found we liked sweet and juicy wines. We eventually took a trip to Napa, which we were definitely unprepared and uneducated for. Despite feeling like idiots, we were able to absorb some information AND find the holy grail of sweet wines. Upon our return to Texas, we got really into exploring new wines and learning as much as we could about styles we might like. We are still not anywhere close to experts. But we know what we like, and it turns out a lot of people agreed with our choices.
I went searching for reviews and sites primarily for sweet wines, and I couldn't find anything. So, Wine Sweet Wine was born. The site will be exclusively reviewing and sharing our wonderful (and not so wonderful) sweet wine finds. Basically, we drink it so you don't have to. Or so that you at least have some idea what you might like when standing in front of that intimidating wine wall at the grocery store.
